Back in 1999, the Texas Legislature named Lockhart the “Barbecue Capital of Texas,” and for good reason. Lockhart has some of the best barbecue markets in the whole of the state, attracting food-lovers from far and wide.
Lockhart is also known for its historical city center that showcases the city’s original buildings, such as the Caldwell County Courthouse. This beautiful structure was built in 1894 with a Second Empire architectural style. Lockhart’s public library is also a symbol of history, being the oldest operating public library in the state.
Local Parks and Recreation
What attracts so many homebuyers to Lockhart it its wide selection of community parks and recreational spots. One of the most loved parks in the area is the Lockhart State Park. There you can find walking trails along the creekside, as well as playgrounds and scenic parks that are perfect for weekend picnics.
There are other community parks peppered throughout the town, like Lockhart City Park or the Lockhart Soccer Complex. These are great facilities for both sports-lovers and park-goers.
Lockhart also has tons of entertainment venues too, like the Gaslight Baker Theater. This is a great spot to catch live performances put on by local acting groups.
