Free Events in Austin

Austin is a popular location for those looking for real estate, but there is much more to the city than just its homes for sale. Austin is filled with wonderful events and attractions, some of which can be enjoyed free of charge.

Whether you are single, or with children, there is something waiting with your name on it! This coming weekend Austin is playing host to a number of free events throughout the city. Take a look at our list below for some of the free events happening in Austin this weekend.

The Ride the Lightning Electric Flight Event

This event takes place on Saturday at 8705 Lindell Lane in Austin. Beginning at 10 am, pilots will control some of the coolest radio controlled electric planes you’ll ever see. Giant scale model planes will be soaring the skies all day and into the night. While there, take the time to chat with one of the ARCA instructors to learn more about the planes and their history. This event runs all day and is completely free! If you or your children are a fan of RC planes, this has to be the stop for you.

Shakespeare at Ramsey Park

The rendition of The Winter's Tale will be taking place on two nights, Friday June 17, and Saturday June 18 at 8:00pm. The production is focused mainly on the artistic storytelling and will involve a minimal amount of costumes and props. Enjoy these thespian talents as they showcase their skills to keep you entertained and intrigued over the course of the play. Be sure to get to Ramsey Park early and find a perfect spot to enjoy the show!

Splish Splash Pool Bash

You live in Austin. You understand that living here means some HOT summers. Well, what better way to beat the heat this weekend than to enjoy some time in an Olympic-sized swimming pool. On Saturday from 1-4pm at the Townlake YMCA, enjoy fun and games in the water, or the great food that will be available as well! This is a perfect opportunity for families to cool off together and enjoy some great water games.

Lady Bird Lake

This gorgeous area along the Colorado River is ideal for those looking to enjoy some time outside. The area is ideal for those who enjoy running, walking, or jogging around wonderful trails. In addition, Lady Bird Lake is a great place to listen to live music, as often people are performing in the area for your enjoyment. Lady Bird Lake is quite simply an amazing spot to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the area.

Mount Bonnell

Looking for a place to go for some instantly rewarding exercise? Look no further than Mount Bonnell. This popular Austin area attraction is essentially one giant staircase. Comprised of 99 total steps, the top of Mount Bonnell offers those who make it outstanding views of the city skyline, Lake Austin, and Hill Country. Admission is free, and the rewards are breathtaking.
