Born and raised in Central Texas, I have witnessed the changes and tremendous growth in my native state. I can recall days when I could easily commute from counties just north of Austin to the downtown Capitol. I remember when the communities of Round Rock and Dripping Springs were not considered Austin’s “commuter suburbs”, but were vital in farming and ranching. While these communities still hold close to those values, lifestyles here now trend to that of a big city. Austin’s boundaries are nearly invisible as we continue to welcome more people to Central Texas daily.
Let’s face it though, life is about change and how we adapt. I grew up a farm kid. My brother and I spent many a hot, summer day with our dad driving a combine and hauling grain and hay. I was active in my high school FFA program where I excelled in its’ leadership programs. I was voted by my peers to state FFA president and this opportunity jump-started my professional career in the agriculture and animal health arenas. After several years learning the ropes in marketing and sales, I transitioned from animal health sales to “big pharma”. I spent the next 20 years of my career working in large organizations, including a Fortune 15 company, in leadership roles in business management and executive sales management. I gained expertise in strategic planning, negotiation and market analytics. I effectively worked to identify business needs and implemented creative solutions.
Throughout my professional career, I was influenced by the book, Good to Great, by Jim Collins. The “take-home” message for me, was focus on what you are good at and be the very best at it. I strive to be the best at everything I do and through discipline, dedication and hard work I manage to hit my goals, without forfeiting my values or customer satisfaction. I have always had an entrepreneur spirit and I longed to take ownership in my career, which led me to leave the corporate world and put my sales experience into real estate. This change has been a good fit for me and JB Goodwin has helped me align my skills with the real estate needs of the Austin area market.
